LAVA IS IN THE AIR
I made this film during the Spark Sessions at Art&Graft.
Inspired by Brett Morgen 2022 documentary ‘The Fire of Love’ featuring volcanic scientists and couple; Katia and Maurice Krafft.
My favourite part of this Sparks project was the character animation, particularly finalising the personality and movements of the Kraffts. My aim was to emphasise the playfulness between them – I remember a scene from the documentary when Maurice throws a rock at Katia’s head to test out the heavy metal headgear. I wanted to create a sweet, positive spin on the documentary and capture the Kraffts mesmerised by their ‘sunset’.
